Articulation Therapy

Enhance confidence

To articulate means to come in contact with. Articulation is referring to how our articulators - lips, tongue, teeth, hard palate, soft palate, glottis - move and come together to create the sounds we hear. My particular focus is that our articulators have the most appropriate strength, range of motion, and control to be placed in the optimal position so that our sounds come out clearly.

What is the difference between speech and language?

Speech refers to how sounds are produced. We are thinking about the intersection between the tongue, teeth, lips, jaw, hard and soft palates, and the glottis.

Language is an agreed upon system in which we communicate to one another. Language consists of our words, the structure of those words, our pitch, tone, and rate. This dictates how effectively we are able to communicate and get our very important messages across.

What is orofacial myofunctional therapy?

Orofacial myofunctional therapy (OMT) is a type of therapy that has a goal of training or retraining specific muscles to operate in a more optimal manner. Myo also means muscle. So OMT focuses on the muscles  of the face, tongue, lips, and jaw to support overall facial development, as well as development of feeding, swallowing, breathing, speech, and even sleep!
